The Book of You: New Interactive Trails Taking Over King’s Lynn Town Centre April 15 - May 3

Locals and visitors to King’s Lynn are invited to pick up their pens and write about their own lives, as The Margery Kempe Trust announces the launch of two brand new, free interactive town trails: “The Book of You” for adults and young people, and the “Scribbles the Story Scribe” activity adventure for children.

Inspired by The Book of Margery Kempe, the first autobiography in the English language, both trails encourage participants to explore King’s Lynn, unleash their creativity, and document their own unique stories.

The two self-directed trails take participants to 14 local businesses, museums, and historical landmarks.

The Scribbles trail is for younger adventurers. Children can pick up a free booklet and a custom “Story Scribe"” pencil, then hunt for hidden posters at each venue. Each poster reveals instructions to complete an activity inside the booklet.

The Book of You is a more reflective life writing trail for adults and teenagers. Following the same 14 venues, participants complete their booklet by engaging with the town’s heritage with creative, mindful, and autobiographical activities to build their very own The Book of You. They will be provided with a free custom “Everyone has a Story” pen.

The 14 participating venues hosting both trails are: The Dice Box, The Fent Shop, Forward Number 33 Gift Shop, GroundWork Gallery, Hays Travel, King’s Lynn Library, Lynn Museum, Majestic Cinema, Marriott's Warehouse, King’s Lynn Minster, Poco Lounge, Stories of Lynn, True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum, and Waterstones.

The puzzles and activities were collaboratively designed with the creative input of English Language and Literature students from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, with historical guidance provided by Ivor Rowlands of the King’s Lynn Town Guides. The Margery Kempe Trust runs a weekly creative writing session with members at Forward Day Centre who also created a prompt for the trail.

Win £200 for Your Storytelling Skills! The Margery Kempe Trust is awarding a grand prize for the best completed “The Book of You” booklet. Participants are encouraged to snap a photo of their favourite completed pages and share them on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok by following and tagging @tmkt.kingslynn or by sending an email to hello@tmkt.org.uk

There will also be spot prizes throughout the trail’s run.

This community project is part of the Love Your Market Town scheme and has been generously supported by Norfolk County Council and the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.
